International Cooperation

For some years now MM has started its international cooperation activities by sharing its initiatives with the Municipalityand other entities that are part of the Milan territorial system. This commitment has as its reference the United Nations “Agenda 2030” for Sustainable Development and is part of the “city to city cooperation” strategic line adopted by the Municipality of Milan with the dual purpose of supporting and enhancing exchanges of best practices and the transfer of capacity building among cities, including those in the global south. MM has provided its technical expertise in water service management with an inclusive approach that engages the three dimensions of sustainability: economic, environmental and social.

MM is currently involved in three development cooperation projects: Enacting SDG6 in Tunisia, Remirio in Brazil, and MaisPemba in Mozambique. The planning in the different countries stems from a careful prior analysis of needs and context, for which MM also relies on the support of local diplomatic authorities, and is developed into work plans with clearly defined objectives aimed at making the professional contribution concrete in vulnerable territorial areas.
