Sustainability

What does sustainability mean to us?

Our commitment is focused on enhancing the common good by integrating the values of sustainability directly into our business strategy. For MM, sustainable development is not just a concept, but a tangible responsibility toward environmental, social, and economic well-being.

In 2025, we consolidated this mission by evolving our corporate status into a Benefit Corporation. This choice clearly expresses our desire to permanently integrate social and environmental purposes alongside our economic goals. We focus specifically on improving public housing conditions, mitigating the effects of climate change, and promoting sustainable practices. Today, we work with a clear objective: to ensure a better quality of life for future generations than our own.

Our 2028 Objectives

Industrial Plan and Sustainability

MM’s commitment is focused on enhancing the common good by integrating the values of sustainability across all three dimensions of our business strategy. Specifically, we focus on: the environment, through the protection of natural resources and the reduction of consumption; society, by ensuring fairly distributed well-being, listening to needs, and promoting human progress; and economy, through the creation of long-term value to ensure lasting and sustainable growth.

Efficiency and energy saving

MM considers it essential to improve energy efficiency (reducing energy consumption while maintaining the quality and quantity of services provided) through a consistent and systematic approach, by:

  • the growing awareness among employees of the importance of adopting “best practices”;
  • support for economic investment in the sector, even without committing new financial resources, but by capitalizing on future savings (for example, through the purchase of new, more efficient, and less energy-intensive technologies);
  • the continuous improvement (through the provision of specialized and technological expertise) of the Energy Management System, which MM was the first in its sector to certify to UNI CEI EN ISO 50001.
    The energy targets set by the organization are updated on an ongoing basis by the Energy Manager, who also plays a key role in the UNI CEI EN ISO 50001-certified Energy Management System.

Energy policy objectives

MM's strategic objectives regarding energy policy can be summarized as follows:

  • commitment to the continuous improvement of overall energy performance;
  • a commitment to ensuring the availability of information and all the resources necessary to achieve energy objectives and targets;
  • commitment to comply with applicable legal requirements;
  • a commitment to purchase products and services based on energy efficiency criteria;
  • a commitment to take energy performance into account when designing modifications to existing systems or new systems.

To achieve these objectives, MM has maintained an Energy Management System (EMS) for its Water Services since 2011, in accordance with the UNI CEI EN ISO 50001 standard.

Sustainability Reporting

The principles governing MM’s sustainable development are illustrated in our Sustainability Reporting. This document is the primary tool through which the Company periodically communicates the outcomes of its activities, going beyond mere financial and accounting aspects to include the social and environmental policies, actions, and objectives we have implemented.
The report attests to MM’s social dimension, providing clear evidence of the benefits generated for all stakeholders directly or indirectly affected by the Company’s operations.

Material Topics

At MM, we analyze our impacts through the principle of Double Materiality. This method allows us to identify the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) topics where our activities have a real impact, while also understanding how external global challenges influence our business.
Below are the topics on which we focus our efforts, as they are considered material to both our company and our stakeholders.
