Green

On 1 October 2024, the Municipality of Milan formalised the assignment to MM Spa of the management of the city’s green heritage for the next 25 years, i.e. until October 2049, as already planned and approved by both the Palazzo Marino Council and the Municipal Council.

The transfer of responsibility for and maintenance of public green spaces to MM S.p.A. will follow a gradual process: for the months following the transfer, MM will manage existing contracts in coordination with the Municipality of Milan. Starting in January 2025, the company will directly handle the maintenance of gardens and green spaces in municipal schools, and from April 2025, it will also take over the green spaces in Municipality 8, which has the highest concentration of green spaces among the city’s nine municipalities. By the end of 2025, it will be responsible for the management and care of all 18 million square metres of green spaces in the city.

The Housing Division and MM’s ERP Green function have identified a number of locations where to carry out in-depth investigations on the pre-existing trees and then plant new ones, also in view of the repeated weather events of summer 2023, which disrupted their arrangement.

The objective is to monitor the health status of trees and implement/restore the tree stock.

The Municipality of Milan and MM’s ERP Green function are collaborating to create new “Open Squares” that aim to enhance public spaces and transform them into gathering places, expanding pedestrian areas and promoting sustainable forms of mobility that benefit the environment and the quality of life in the city.

The project proposes to provide new job opportunities arising from the application of circular economy models to respond to some of the social fragilities of the urban area in which OC Cascina Nosedo is located.

The research intends to initiate an experimental laboratory geared toward generating favorable conditions for the area from networks and practices already present in the area. BioLoop (BL) intends to trigger processes that can establish new relationships among local actors, starting with the development of innovative solutions for the use of edible and nonedible waste and surplus in the area.

The project identifies the area between the Corvetto, Porto di Mare and Chiaravalle neighborhoods as ideal conditions for its development, as networks operating in the social sector (Qubi network, Corvetto network) are well established in the area and important regeneration initiatives have been conducted (UIA Open Agri project, Park of Porto di Mare).
